As we have reached the digital age, where almost every part of our life has been digitalised in one way or another. From kitchen appliances that can be controlled with an app on the phone, or the virtual robots that are now vacuuming our houses. Yes, it is the age of technological advancements in all fields, and fashion is not any different.
Since there are many technologies that are being tested or introduced to consumers, I will focus on one for now and build on the rest in the future.
Mobile Body Scanning
This technology focuses on the fact that factories and brand owners have to estimate the sizes of their clients and this leads to over production and also leaves risk of dead stalk. Also considering that every person has a different body build and make, it has been a hard decision on styles depending on body types.
With this technology, one can use an app on their phone to fully scan their body, that information is sent to the brand, which then sends the specific information to the factory to make the specific size.
This technology is also very useful for companies that would like to order uniforms for their employees or schools for their students. This is amazing because it limits the risk of companies paying double for adjustments or even outsourcing for specific sizes. Body scanning takes away room for such errors and limits the amount of textile waste in the long run.
As a designer, this is amazing as it helps me with the exact sizes of my clients and shortens the time that would be needed for either the client to come over for measurements and eventually fitting. It also makes my works faster as I would have to wait for a client to come for try ons before completing an outfit. To me this is ground breaking and a good thing worth celebrating.
